Abstract

Reading habit is an activity reading on a regular basis that involves both physically and mentally to get the message, instruments or knowledge to be conveyed by the author. Reading comprehension is the process of making meaning from text. This study was aimed to see correlation Students reading habit and students reading comprehension at the second grade of SMA Negeri 4 Parepare. This type of research is quantitative associative with quantitative design correlational. The research sample was 76 students from 312 participants students who become the population in taking samples of researchers using techniques Random Sampling. Data collection techniques are questionnaires and test. The data analysis technique used is descriptive and inferential with using the product moment correlation analysis. Based on data analysis, the result of this study indicated that the students reading habit at the second grade of SMA Negeri 4 Parepare was 70.7%. This proved that students reading habit is in high category. The second, students reading comprehension at the second grade of SMA Negeri 4 Parepare was 89.9 %. It showed that students ability in comprehending was in very high category. Finally, there was the correlation between students reading habit and students reading comprehension at the second grade of SMA Negeri 4 Parepare. It was proved in accordance with the results of the questionnaires and score of the test about reading comprehension with significant value r_xy= 0.670 ≥r_tabel = 0.220 at a significant level of 5%, while the result was 45%.
