Abstract
The objective of the research are expected to describe the use genre approach in improve students writing ability of Eleventh social grade SMAN 4 Parepare. To know was the use of genre approach able to improve writing ability of the students Eleventh social grade in SMAN 4 Parepare and how the process genre approach able to improve the writing ability of the students Eleventh social grade in SMAN 4 Parepare This research was use quantitative method in the research. The instrument was a writing test. The writing test consist of some topics that given by the researcher. There were two topics in pre-test and also post-test. The students were ask to make some sentence based on one of the topic that they have chosen before. The location of this research was taken in SMA Negeri 4 Parepare with the number of the respondents, 20 students. All of the process in this research was take time about one month until two month less. After process of collecting data in some meetings finished the researcher would analysis the data by some form to get the final result to prove was the genre approach able to improve writing ability of students at SMAN 4 Parepare or not. The result of the research showed that there was improvement while doing pre-test and post-test. Mean score of pre-test as 1.4 and mean score of post-test was increased become 45.3. Moreover for standard deviation which pre-test was 1.77 while post-test standard deviation was increases become 2.72. As illustrated in table 4.5 the mean score of post-test was greater than mean score of pre-test. It means that students writing ability was improve by Genre approach. The value of t-test 46.9 was greater than t-table 1.725. It indicated that there was difference between the result of students pre-test and post-test but not too significance. There were some reason that influence this case like the lack of meeting time during the research. In addition to these two things, the level of understanding of each student also influences because this research was carried out not through face-to-face cause of this Covid-19 pandemic the making this research approach genre less optimal.
