Abstract

This study describe the level anxiety of students in class XI Accounting at SMKN 6 Pinrang. The purpose of this research is to know students level anxiety in speaking English and what causes students to feel anxious in speaking English. This research was also purposed to examined the factor of students’ speaking anxiety in English Class This research used a mixed-method to get data in this research. This method that combine between quantitative and qualitative method. mixed methods research is a research method that uses two method of quantitative and qualitative research methods. Therefore, it is very appropriate to find out how anxious students speak English and the causes of theses students’ anxiety in speaking. The result of the DASS 42 questionnaire on anxiety, most of students were categorized as experiencing severe speaking anxiety. There are seven students who experience severe speaking anxiety in the class. Inversely proportional to severe speaking anxiety, there where no students who experienced normal level anxiety in the class. Meanwhile, there were two students who experienced anxiety at a mild level and there were also six students who had moderate of level anxiety in speaking English. Finally, there are six students who have very severe speaking anxiety in speaking English. From the interviews, there are four factor that cause speaking anxiety in English class,. First, learner feel insecure and ashamed of themselves when they have to speak English, afraid to make mistakes, not fluent pronouncing English speaking, and lack of understanding of English lessons.
