Abstract

The objectives of the research are: 1) to find out the teacher’s style in teaching English, and 2) to find out the students’ perception of teacher’s style in teaching English. The research applied the descriptive qualitative method to answer the problem of this skripsi. The research took place at SMPN 1 Maniangpajo Kab.Wajo. The population of this research were 134 students. The sample of this research consisted of two kind of samples, the first sample was the English teacher and the second sample were 30 students by used simple random sampling technique. The researcher used interview and questionnaire as instrument of this research. The result of this research found that the teaching style applied and used by teacher’s in teaching English at SMPN 1 Maniangpajo Kab.Wajo were all the teaching styles from Grasha’s theory namely Expert, Formal Authority, Personal Model, Facilitator, and Delegator. However, the Facilitator’s teaching style is more dominant. The researcher also found that the students’ perception of teacher’s style in teaching English at SMPN 1 Maniangpajo Kab. Wajo was categorized as good. It clearly found as effective styles which were able to develop the students English language.
