Abstract
Parental support is the social interaction of parents received by their children in the form of love, motivation, attention or prayer, and material in dealing with an important event in their child's life. Parental support includes emotional support, cognitive support, and material support. This study is focused on finding out how parents support students during the learning process of English. The purpose of this study was to determine the support of students' parents in the process of learning English during the pandemic at SMP Negeri 6 Parepare Model. The respondent in this study were students of class VIII 1, VIII 2, and VIII 3 of SMP Negeri 6 Model Parepare with a total of 60 students as respondents. The instrument used in this study is a questionnaire. This study uses data analysis, namely the Rasch Model. This model is a one-parameter item response theory (IRT) model which assumes that each item is a parameter of difficulty level. This model also organizes abilities and items based on difficulty level. The results of this study indicate that there are still many students who lack support and attention from their parents during the online English learning process during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the assessment using the Rasch Model, the researcher found that 23 (38.3%) of the 60 respondents who tended to have difficulty getting support from their parents during the process of learning English from all items on parental support. Only a few students really get full support from students' parents, be it emotional support, cognitive support, or material support. Based on an assessment using the Rasch model, the researcher found that only 4 (6.6%) of the 60 respondents who most often received support from parents during the English learning process from all items contained in parental support.
