Abstract

Reading is one of language skills which are thought formally from elementary school to the university level in Indonesia. It is very important to teach and learn the students to master reading comprehension as the necessities for sharing information and develop their knowledge. On the other hand, the students should be given opportunities to develop their language skill with specific analyzing on reading comprehension. those become some of the consideration of the researcher to conduct this research. Therefore, teaching reading through PORPE method able becomes a problem solving for the lack of the students’ in reading. Objective of this research to finding whether or not the using of PORPE method able improves significantly the reading comprehension. The population of this research were the students of the Second Grade of SMKM Muhammadiyah Parepare in academic 2021-2022. The subject of this research is XI TKV class which is consisted of 21 students. The subject of this using purposive sampling. The design in this research was pre-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The students’ did the pre-test, got the treatment and did the post-test. It aimed to know whether PORPE method can improve reading comprehension. The result in this research was indicated that there was improvement of the students’ reading comprehension. it was indicated by the students’ mean score of post-test (78,80) was greater than pre-test (51,90). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and df = 20, and the value of table is 1,742, while the value of t-test is 4,00. It means that, the t-test value is greater than t-table (1,742 ≤ 4,00). Thus, it can be concluded that the students’ reading comprehension is significant better after getting the treatment. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
