Abstract

This study was designed to improve the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text by using jigsaw strategy. The objective of the study was to find out how jigsaw strategy can be used to improve the reading comprehension of narrative text of the second grade students of MTs AL-QamarKassa. The design of the research was pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this reserach was the second grade students of MTs AL-QamarKassa in academic year 2017-2018. They were 23 students. The sample of this research was taken of the population by using total sampling technique. The sample was VII with the total number of students were 23 students. In this research, the data was analyzed into percentage, mean score and t-test to find out the result of the research. The result of the data analyze showed that the students’ achievement on the pre-test was (49,13) and post-test was (85,21). This showed that using jigsaw strategy was a good technique in English learning process at the second grade of MTs AL-QamarKassa. After analyzing the data by using the t-test formula, the result of the t-test value (35,029) was higher than t-table value (2,074) for the level significance 0,05, degree of freedom (p) 23. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Based on data analysis, the researcher concluded that by using jigsaw strategy was able to improve the students’ reading comprehension at the second grade students of MTs AL-QamarKassa.
