Abstract
Introduction to linguistic is one the subject for the students of English Program of STAIN Parepare other Universities in Indonesia. Meanwhile, textbooks on Introduction to Linguistics are very scarcely available. Due to the fact, the author is motivated to write this book. This books aims at providing the students with basic knoledge of linguistics. By having this knowledge, the students will know what language is, what linguistics is, the division and branches of linguistic and the historical development of Linguistic. This book is organized into eight Chapters, in Chapter I the historical of linguistic, ancient greek, Ancient Rome,Middle Age. Chapter II, What is Linguistic, describing of Phonology, Syntax, Morphology, Semantic, and Pragmatic. Chapter III. Phonology, what is phonology, phone, phonemic. Chapter IV Morphology, What is Morphology, morphem, Morph, and Alomorph. Chapter V. Syntax, what is syntax, Phrase, Clause, Sentence.Chapter VI. Semantic, meaning, conotation and denotation. Chapter VII. Pragmatics, Utterance, proposition, Reference,. Chapter VIII. Sociolinguistic, Speech act, Dexis. Finally, the writer expresses his most propound gratitude to the Almighty God for his mercy and blessing, and to all colleagues who save given invaluable suggestions and correction, so that this book can publish
