Abstract
Vocabulary is one of the important elements in English and is a basic skill needed to master all aspects of English language ability. The main problem in this research is the low amount of vocabulary that students have and their lack of interest in learning vocabulary. One of the effective and efficient teaching technique to help improve students' vocabulary is the make a match technique. The make a match technique is one of the teaching technique that can help early grade students memorize vocabulary with a fun ambiance. The objective of this research was to examine whether the use of make a match technique was able to improve students’ English vocabulary in the third grade of SD Hafizh Al Qurbah Parepare. This research was a pre-experimental design, and the population was the third grade of SD Hafizh Al Qurbah Parepare. The researcher used the purposive sampling technique to obtain a sample of 30 students. This research instrument was a vocabulary test on the pre-test and post-test. The data were collected by giving pre-tests, treatment, and post-tests. The data analysis test showed a significant difference between being given treatment and after being given treatment. It was proved by developing a mean score from 40,8 on the pre-test to 91,5 on the post-test. While T-test 14,3 was more significant than T-table 1,699. It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the alternative (Ha) was accepted. Therefore, make a match technique able to improve students’ English vocabulary.
