Abstract

This research was conducted at SMPN 3 Polewali and SMPN 4 Polewali sub-districk of pekkabata. Based on the data obtained at the research location, the teachers efforts in developing students interest, motivation, and self confidence were very effective because eventhough students lacked vocabulary, they had difficulty pronouncing sentences and are not skilled in speaking, students are always trying and enthusiastic in learning English. The researcher found that each English teachers made effort in teaching English but of course with different techniques. Researchers used qualitative methods with a case study approach. In the process of collecting data, researcher used the observation method to observer and know the process of learning English. The subject of this study were 6 english teachers and involved 12 students in a random sampling related to students constraints and how students developed their interest, motivation and self confidence. The researcher conducted research in 2 schools, 4 english teachers and 6 students at SMPN 3 Polewali and 2 english teachers and 6 students at SMPN 4 Polewali. The result of the research from data collection that the teachers efforts in developing students interest, motivation, and self confidence in terms of the teachers efforts were implemented quite well the teachers make are creating groups, providing learning method that are appropriate to students learning styles, the teacher gives special assigment to students who are lacking in english, the teacher provide competition in the class the aim is to motivate students who are active, provide games, reward, then the teacher uses coaching techniques to help students who lack confidence and there is support from the school principal who always provides solution to teachers and students.
