Abstract

Learning style is the easiest way for individuals to absorb, organize, and also process the information they receive. Each student has a different learning style so that in receiving, processing and remembering the information obtained is also different. The purpose of this study was to find out how the learning styles students have in learning English, and the teacher's strategy in dealing with differences in student learning styles in learning English. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method, where this research focuses on existing phenomena and then understands and analyzes them in depth. with data collection techniques using observation and in-depth interviews. The sample of this research was class XI students of SMK Farmasi Yasari Parepare, totaling 13 students. The results of this study indicate (1) the learning styles of students in learning English in class XI of SMK Farmasi Yasari Parepare, that is, all 13 students have all three student learning styles and tendencies with visual and auditory learning styles where the number of students who have learning styles visual and auditory the number of students is balanced. (2) The teacher's strategy in overcoming differences in student learning styles in learning English, while the strategies that are usually designed by English subject teachers in the learning process include explaining material, using group study methods, and a little practice. Teachers still haven't fully adapted the strategies for the three student learning styles, teachers are still monotonous with the lecture method strategy, which only makes students bored and have no interest in English lessons.
