Abstract
The study disscussed the character and characterization in the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s. in Alquran aiming at: 1) describing and analyzing the forms of each character in the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s. in Alquran; 2) describing and analyzing the intrinsic literary elements contained in the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s. in Alquran. In answering the two issues above, the researcher utilized two approaches, namely an intrinsic literary approach, then supported by a structuralism approach. The study was descriptive qualitative research (library research). The data were collected by quoting, adapting, and analyzing by using content analysis to the representative literature and having relevance to the subject being discussed, then thoroughly reviewing and concluding it. The results of the study revealed that the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s. contained in Alquran was a story with the study of characters and characterizations, as well as elements of completed intrinsic literature compared with some stories contained in verses of Alquran, and on some existing literary stories as well. The discussions of characters and characterizations were not only on the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s., but on other stories as well. Similarly, the discussion of intrinsic literature was a very wide discussion, yet with the hope that there will be research that can completely and widely study and develop it.
