Abstract

At this time, android is a learning media that is widely used for online and offline learning. Therefore, this research aimed to design English vocabulary materials based android application for seventh grade students of Mts DDI Ujung Lare Parepare. The Research Design (R&D) was employed in this study. Then, the subjects of this research used total sampling of grade VII students for need analysis. It consisted of 64 students and the acceptability of students used random sampling consisted of 30 students. There were two questionnaires used to collect the data. The first questionnaire was used for need analysis, the second questionnaire was used for the appropriateness of product. Based on data of need analysis, the finding showed that students’ perception on the vocabulary learning application about learning English vocabulary is presented by using words (3.53) was categorized “Very Important”, students’ perception on learning media by using pictures mean score (3.52) was categorized “Very Important”, students’ perception on learning activity in learning process individually mean score (3.53) was categorized “ Very Important”, students’ perception about the presentation of exercise model by using multiple choice (3.56) was categorized “Very Important”, students’ learning problems in vocabulary had a difficulty in pronunciation mean score (3.45) was categorized “Very High”, students’ perception about animal topic in learning vocabulary mean score (3.58) was categorized “Very Important”. Moreover, the design of the English vocabulary product consisted of three main menu such as materials, video and quiz. In materials, there were six English topics talked about animal, introduction, family, number, shape and color. Besides, every topic completed with one video from youtube.com. In addition, there were some quizzes about exercise of vocabulary learning consisted of multiple choice, matching item, fill in the blank and true/false model exercise. All of the material was completed with picture and pronunciation. Then, the acceptability students of the product (3,22) with acceptability (90%) it was in “Appropriate” categories.
