Abstract
WAHYU RUSTAM. Analyzing Teachers' Needs in Integrating Local Culture Into English Teaching Materials at the Junior High School Level in Sidrap Regency. (Supervised by Abdul Haris Sunubi and Kalsum) This research was an attempt to analyze teachers' specific needs in integrating local culture into English teaching materials. This study explored the needs of techers in 3 domains namely pedagogical needs, resources needs as well as training needs. The integration of local culture is expected to make students more interested and feel close to the learning materials.this research was conducted in Islamic Junior High Schools in Sidrap involved 8 teachers as the respondents This research was descriptive qualitative design. The data was collected by semi-structured interview with 10 questions of interview protocol as the instrument. The instrument was adapted by 3 grand theories namely PCK, Fund of Knowledge and CRP theory. The data then transcripted and analyzed by using qualitative method. The resuls of this research on teachers' needs in integrating local culture, specifically Bugis culture, into English teaching materials indicate that teachers have three main needs. The first, in terms of pedagogical needs, teachers recognize the importance of local culture, particularly Bugis culture, as a source of meaningful and contextualized teaching materials. However, many teachers still have difficulty transforming this cultural knowledge into planned, communicative learning strategies appropriate for students' ability levels. The second, the need for local cultural resources emerged as a significant challenge in the process of cultural integration. Teachers have limited access to resources and teaching materials that highlight Bugis culture in the context of English language learning. The third. Although most teachers expressed readiness and enthusiasm to learn, the majority have never attended training that specifically addresses the integration of local culture into English language teaching. Teachers want applicable training that equips them with the skills to develop lesson plans, select cultural content, and manage the classroom with culturally relevant approaches. Additionally, educational institutions, such as schools, education offices, and teacher communities, must provide spaces for collaboration, ongoing coaching, and resources that support local, culture-based learning practices.
