Abstract

Vocabulary is one of important factor in order to increase the mastery of English by students’ in learning English. Vocabulary is a really importan aspect, especially for understanding the English text, without understanding vocabulary, the students will find some difficulties. To improve students’ vocabulay, the teacher need the suitable method to conduct in the classroom. Drill method is one of the method that can improve students’ vocabulary is done continuously and repetedly. This study was aimed to find out the implementation of drill method can to improving the students’ vocabulary at the second grade of MTs Izzatul Ma’arif Tappina Kab. Polman. The subject of this research was the class of VIIIB grade which consist of 16 students. The design of this research was quantitative method using pre-experimental design. The data was collected through pre-test and post test. It aimed to know whether the drill method can improve the students vocabulary mastery. The result in this research was indicated that there was the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery. it was indicated that the students’ mean score of post-test (3,09) was greater than pre-test (2,14). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and df = 15, and the value of table is 1,753, while the value of t-test is 5,59. It means that, the t-test value is greater than t-table (5,59 ≥ 1,753). Thus, it can be concluded that the students’vocabulary mastery improved after getting the treatment. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
