Abstract

There are four skill in English such us speaking, writing, reading, and listening. Pronunciation is one the element of English which plays an important role in English speaking performance because by having a good pronunciation, it will give confidence in speaking English. This research was carried out at SMK Negeri 3 Parepare. In this case, the researcher found that the students in II Multimedia Class are still low in pronunciation. Many problems that students encountered when learning English especially in pronuncing English words. To solve the problem, the researcher applied the media called A1 SpeechTRON. This media is inspired by the rapid development of technology from the early 1980s called Computer-assisted Language Learning (CALL) which using a techonology in foreign language learning pedagody. The objective of the research is to know whether A1 SpeechTRON is able or not to improve students pronunciation of students at SMKN 3 Parepare. The population was the students of Second Year of Students Multimedia at SMK Negeri 3 Parepare. the sample of this research was 33 students from II Multimedia Class. The researcher used pre-experimental design in one group was given pre-test, treatment and post-test design, as for the effect of treatment was judged by the difference between the pre-test and post-test. The success of the implementation of the media is determined by comparing pre-test and post-test score. To collect the data, the researcher used tests that are pre-test and post-test. The researcher also gave questionnaire to know the responses of students towards learning pronunciation through A1 SpeechTRON. The data were analyzed as a percentage, mean score analyzes and the value of the test. The first result of the data analyzed that the students achievement on the pre-test was (2,57) and post-test was (4,09). This proved that by applying A1 SpeechTRON media was a great media in English learning experience at students of SMK Negeri Parepare. After analyzing the data by using the t-test formula, the result of the t-test value (16,06) is higher than the t-table value (1,69389). In other words, that there is a different improvement before and after applying A1 SpeechTRON as media of teaching. The second result of analyzed data that 85% of students liked to learn English pronunciation and agreed that A1 SpeechTRON as media was able in improving their pronunciation and most of all the students (91%) were interested in using the A1 SpeechTRON as media.
