Abstract

This research was carried out in SMAN 2 Parepare. Every teacher have a different strenghts and weakness in teaching. Teacher need to improve knowledge and skill to enhance, improve and explore their teaching practice. Teacher has a big responsibility in supplying and giving education especially in conveying knowledge for the students in the school. The success of learning process influenced by factors involved in learning activity. The research question is “How does the English teacher’s competence in developing the teaching materials based on 2013 curriculum at SMAN 2 Parepare.” This research was descriptive qualitative which the researcher observed direclty the object of the research. The data was collected by documentation interview and observation then data collection processed, reduction data, display data and make a conclution. The finding of this research revealed that the teachers in SMAN 2 Parepare have a general pedagogic, personal, professional and social competence but the teachers competence to develop the material still need to be developed. The teachers do not develop the teaching materials by making a workbook, textbook, a video, ect. But the teacher only use handbook in teaching and sometimes use the internet.
