Abstract

SITTI AISYAH. The Effect Of Rosetta Stone Application On Students’ Pronunciation At Smpn 8 Pinrang (Supervised by Zulfah) Rosetta Stone is a digital language learning application designed to support pronunciation learning through interactive activities and speech-recognition features. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Rosetta Stone application in improving students’ English pronunciation at SMPN 8 Pinrang, particularly in terms of clarity, stress, and intonation. This research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test model. The sample consisted of 20 ninth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. An oral pronunciation test was used as the research instrument and administered as both a pre-test and a post-test to assess students’ pronunciation performance based on clarity (vowel, consonant, and diphthong), word and sentence stress, and rising and falling intonation. The findings indicate that students’ pronunciation ability before the treatment was at a Very Poor level, with a mean pre-test score of 36.79. After the implementation of the Rosetta Stone application, students’ pronunciation significantly improved, as shown by the mean post-test score of 73.48, which fell into the Good category. The result of the paired sample t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Rosetta Stone application is effective in improving students’ English pronunciation at SMPN 8 Pinrang, particularly in terms of clarity, stress, and intonation, although some sounds such as /θ/, /ð/, and complex diphthongs remained challenging for some students.
