Abstract
Nur Halimah. Increasing Students English Listening-Skill By Using Poro English Application In Second Grade At Sman 12 Enrekang (Supervised by . Abd. Haris Sunubi) Poro English is a mobile application designed to improve students’ English listening skills through engaging audio-based learning activities. This study aimes to determine the effectiveness of the Poro English application in enhancing students' listening comprehension, specifically focusing on four key indicators: understanding, remembering, evaluating, and responding. The research was conducted at second-grade students at SMAN 12 Enrekang during the 2025 academic year. This study employed a pre-experimental research design using a one-group pre-test and post-test approach with a quantitative method. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 28 students from class XI A as the research sample. Listening tests were administered before and after the treatment to measure the improvement in students' skills. Over six meetings, students were guided to use the Poro English application’s features such as daily conversations, audio repetition, bilingual subtitles, and vocabulary practice. The results there is significant increase in students' listening scores, with the mean pre-test score of 53.57 (Average) rising to a post-test mean of 87.32 (Very Good). A paired sample t-test revealed a t-value of 24.11, which exceeded the critical t-table value at a 0.05 significance level (p < 0.05). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. This indicates that the Poro English application significantly improved the students’ listening skills at SMAN 12 Enrekang. The poro English application’s interactive and structured approach successfully enhanced comprehension, memory, evaluation, and responsive abilities in listening tasks. It can be concluded that mobile-based language learning applications like Poro English are effective tools for developing English listening skills in high school learners.
