Abstract

Rizkyawan Dzalman Iqram. The Use of Video Dubbing Technique in Improving Students Speaking Ability At SMAN 4 Pinrang. Tarbiyah Faculty of State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Parepare. (Supervised by Dr. Magdahalena Tjalla, M.Pd. and Muajiz Muallim, M.A.). This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Video Dubbing Technique in improving students’ speaking ability, particularly in terms of pronunciation, fluency and accuracy. The study was conducted at SMAN 4 Pinrang class X.1 with 23 students as the research participants. This research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design using one group pre-test and post-test. The data were collected through speaking tests administered before and after the treatment. The treatment was carried out in four meetings using the Video Dubbing Technique with different descriptive text topics, including describing objects, pets, national heroes, and personal experiences. The pre-test results showed that the students’ speaking ability was relatively low, with a mean score of 32.9. After the implementation of the treatment, the post-test results indicated a significant improvement, with the mean score increasing to 59. The statistical analysis using a t-test revealed that the t-test value (16.5) was higher than the t-table value (1.717) at the 0.05 level of significance, which indicates that the improvement was statistically significant. Beyond the improvement in test scores, the most noticeable development was seen in specific aspects of speaking. Before the treatment, many students showed weaknesses in pronunciation and tended to be hesitant when speaking English. After participating in video dubbing activities, students demonstrated clearer pronunciation and better fluency. In addition, students became more confident and began to speak English more freely, including initiating simple conversations with their classmates using expressions they had practiced during the dubbing sessions. This indicates that video dubbing not only improved students’ technical speaking aspects but also encouraged them to use English actively in real classroom interactions.
