Abstract

Nadia Putri Ningsih. The Implementation of Falou Application as an English Learning Media to Improve Vocabulary Mastery of the 11th Grade Students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Parepare (Supervised by Dr. Magdahalena Tjalla, M.Hum). Vocabulary mastery is an important aspect of English learning; however, many students still experience difficulties when learning vocabulary through conventional teaching methods. Therefore, this study aimed to examine whether there was a significant difference in vocabulary mastery between students taught using the Falou Application and those taught using conventional teaching methods and to explore students’ perceptions toward the use of the application in vocabulary learning. This study employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design. The quantitative phase used a quasi-experimental design, while the qualitative phase involved interviews and classroom observations to explain the quantitative findings. The study was conducted with 40 eleventh-grade students at MAN 2 Parepare, consisting of 20 students in the experimental class and 20 students in the control class. The quantitative findings revealed a significant difference in vocabulary mastery between the experimental and control groups. The Independent Samples t-test showed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was 0.000 (< 0.05) and the calculated t-value (5.209) was higher than the critical t-value (2.024). Therefore, H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted, indicating that the Falou Application significantly improved students’ vocabulary mastery. The qualitative findings showed that students perceived the application as useful, easy to use, interactive, and supportive of independent learning. They also reported that contextual learning, repeated practice, pronunciation exercises, and immediate feedback helped them learn vocabulary more effectively. The integration of both findings indicated that these positive learning experiences explained the significant improvement found in the quantitative results. In conclusion, the Falou Application is an effective mobile-assisted language learning medium for improving students’ vocabulary mastery, and the integrated findings provide comprehensive evidence of its effectiveness in supporting English vocabulary learning.
