Abstract

Muhammad Nuh Hamsyar. Using Augmented Reality as an Interactive Learning Tool to Improve Students Vocabulary at SMPN 9 Parepare (Supervised by: Ambo Dalle). This study aimed to determine whether using Augmented Reality (AR) as an interactive learning tool can improve students' vocabulary at SMPN 9 Parepare. The study was initiated by the vocabulary difficulties experienced by the students, where limited vocabulary hindered their communication and academic performance. Additionally, students demonstrated low motivation, a lack of interest, and a high dependency on translation websites or AI tools to complete their assignments rather than engaging in independent critical thinking. This research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design. The population of this study was the seventh-grade students of SMPN 9 Parepare, and a sample of 31 students from class VII.2 was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a vocabulary test consisting of a 20-item multiple-choice pre-test and a 20-item multiple-choice post-test. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using Microsoft Excel. The results showed that before the AR treatment, most students were classified as "poor," with a pre-test total score of 1,475 and an average score of 47.58. After implementing the AR treatment using the Assemblr Edu application, the students' scores improved to the "fair" and "good" classifications, with no students failing, achieving a post-test total score of 2,105 and an average score of 67.90. Statistical analysis revealed that the t-test value (8.036) far exceeded the t-table value (2.042) at a 5% significance level (Df = 30), confirming a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. This demonstrates that utilizing Augmented Reality significantly enhanced students' vocabulary mastery and highlights its potential as an innovative teaching tool.
