Abstract
Fishing households in Lero Village face challenges in managing their finances due to unstable income influenced by weather conditions, fishing seasons, and the amount of fish caught. These conditions make it difficult for families to develop financial plans, meet their daily needs, and prepare funds for future necessities. Effective financial management is therefore considered an important effort in improving the welfare of fishermen's families. This study aims to analyze the financial management strategies of fishermen's households, examine the contribution of financial management to family welfare, and identify the challenges faced by fishermen in managing household finances in Lero Village, Pinrang Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach using field research. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving fishermen's families (pangoli) selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation, thereby enhancing the credibility and trustworthiness of the research findings. The findings indicate that fishermen's families managed their finances through simple financial planning, allocating income based on priority needs, setting aside part of their income as savings, controlling household expenditures, and fulfilling family needs despite the absence of systematic financial records. This financial management contributed to improving family welfare through the fulfillment of basic needs, family education, household economic stability, and preparedness for unexpected financial needs. However, fishermen's families still faced several challenges, including unstable income, limited financial literacy, rising living costs, and dependence on debt. Therefore, improving financial literacy and strengthening financial management skills are essential to supporting the achievement of better family welfare among fishermen's families.
